In a historic accomplishment, two sisters who attended Stern College for Women, Leeby Levine 25S and Dafna Levine 22S from Teaneck, New Jersey, were both accepted early decision to the same incoming class at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Leeby, who majored in Judaic Studies and biology while at Stern, was the Rebecca Ivry Department of Jewish Studies valedictorian of the 2025 graduating class and is currently studying at GPATS. While at YU, she served as captain of the womens soccer team; was co-president of the Medical Ethics Society; co-president of Itutor, where she coordinated free tutoring for local elementary and high school students; a peer tutor and volunteered in the NYU Medical Center emergency room. The thorough and well-rounded education I received at Stern was instrumental in my acceptance to medical school, and I am grateful for the mentors that guided me throughout my undergraduate years, said Leeby.
Dafna, the valedictorian of the Rebecca Ivry Department of Jewish Studies in 2022, studied at GPATS for three years after graduating Stern and is currently working in an ENTs office. Her extracurricular activities at Stern included being captain of YUs womens soccer team, co-president of the Medical Ethics Society, peer tutoring and START! Science. She also worked in the lab of Dr. Alyssa Schuck, clinical assistant professor of biology, studied Alzheimers disease at NYU Langone Health and volunteered in the pediatric emergency room at Weill Cornell Medicine. The fact that YU has allowed me to pursue a well-rounded liberal arts education, high-level Torah study, and now a sought-after medical training all within the same institution is something I do not take for granted, said Dafna.
Dr. Rebecca Cypess, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and the Mordecai D. Katz and Dr. Monique C. Katz Dean of the Undergraduate Faculty of Arts and Sciences, recognized the unique nature of the sisters achievements as well as it being significant for 酴圖弝け. Dafna and Leeby represent the very best of YU through their unwavering dedication to both Torah and science, and through their commitment to serving humanity as healers, she said. I extend my sincere gratitude to the dedicated faculty across the Stern College curriculum, who guide and support students like Leeby and Dafna, day in and day out.
